Women’s World Cup qualifiers: England place 20 former opponents of Latvia to stay top of qualifying group

England knocked out Latvia 20-0 in their World Cup qualifying group on Tuesday night.

Four players on the English side scored hat tricks as the home side beat the Eastern European side.

Beth Mead only needed 23 minutes to score her hat-trick early in the game, while Ellen White had two in the first nine minutes before waiting until the second half to complete her three.

Alessia Russo was the other scorer to score a hat-trick, while Lauren Hemp scored four of her own.

The remaining goals were split between Georgia Stanway, Jordan Nobbs, Jill Scott, Ella Toone, Jess Carter and Bethany England,

Austria also broken minnows Luxembourg 8-0 away in the group’s other game, with Austria five points behind England. Spain hitting the same score for a win against away teams Scotland.

Elsewhere, there was a huge victory for the Republic of Ireland as they crushed Georgia 11-0, and Sweden were winners 3-0 on Slovakia. The Scandinavians are nine points ahead in Group A, while Ireland are third.

Hungary beaten down Ukraine 4-2 in Group B, with Ukraine now fourth, while the home side are third.

Group C saw Iceland 4-0 winners Cyprus, with the latter of the group, while Iceland are second, just behind the Netherlands.

Bosnia herzegovina pressed by Malta with a 1-0 win in Group E.

Azerbaijan to beat Montenegro by the same score, Denmark won a 3-1 victory over the visitors Russia, while Albania were winners 3-1 to Kosovo.

In group G, Croatia meanwhile were able to win 4-0 over Moldova, and Switzerland bombarded Lithuania 7-0, and Italy won an easy 5-0 victory over Romania. Italy is in second place, Switzerland in the lead, while Moldova is at the bottom and Croatia fourth.

In group H, Serbia won a 4-1 victory at Bulgaria, Turkey pressed by Israel 3-2, and Germany were winners 3-1 to Portugal with this last pair respectively first and second.

In group I, Slovenia endured a 0-0 stalemate at home for Greece. France defeated Wales to advance two points on them.
