When will Wales play in the World Cup play-off final? All the information on the postponed match against Scotland or Ukraine following Gareth Bale’s outburst against Austria
Wales are through to the World Cup play-off final after a thrilling win over Austria in Cardiff last week.
The Dragons are expected to face Scotland or Ukraine for the right to go to the Qatar 2022 World Cup, but that match has been suspended for the time being.
Therefore, Wales’ hopes of contesting their first World Cup since 1958 still hang in the balance.
The play-off final was due to take place this week, but Ukrainian football authorities demanded that their semi-final be postponed after Russia invaded the country.
It means Wales will have to wait a bit longer to find out who and when they will play in what will be one of the national team’s biggest games for a long time.
When could Wales play their World Cup play-off final?
FIFA plan to press Scotland against Ukraine at some point in June, but both teams have four UEFA Nations League matches to play that month, including one against each other.
However, the plan is that while the semi-final can take place, the final will take place in the same month. FIFA has yet to confirm an exact date for either game.
Hopefully the situation in Ukraine will improve by June and the play-off semi-final can take place.
If all goes well, June would become a congested month for the Dragons as they have four Nations League fixtures scheduled. Some of them can be put back in place.
The big game would be this World Cup play-off final, of course, and it should take place at the Cardiff City Stadium.

The story so far
Wales have had an amazing journey to get to this point and the future looks very bright for the Dragons no matter what happens next.
However, this group of players have the chance to go down in history, and if they play like they did against Austria, you’d be backing them to beat Scotland or Ukraine.
Wales finished second in Group E, five points behind Belgium, but have lost just one game in the entire campaign.
Their opponents Austria finished fourth in Group F but actually managed to win a point more than the Dragons, despite playing two more games.
Still, the Austrian team that started in Cardiff included David Alaba, Marko Arnautovic and Marcel Sabitzer, so it’s a solid team.
Wales have Bale and the Real Madrid striker scored two magic goals, including a divine free-kick, to seal Wales’ place in the World Cup play-off final.
It was a memorable night in Cardiff and Wales are so close to arriving in Qatar.

Aaron Ramsey said: “It means everything. Play in front of these [fans]what more ?
“We are a long way from a World Cup which is everything for me, for Balo (Gareth Bale), for the nation, for the group of guys.
“We’ve come a long way from the early days and that would be the icing on the cake, qualifying.
“We know there is still a bit of work to do, but we can enjoy tonight.
“It was not easy for [Bale] but the fact that he comes and plays for his country means everything to him. It shows in the way he plays. »
