Veterans Smolov and Guilherme drop out of Russian Euro training squad | Football News
MOSCOW: Forward Fyodor Smolov and goalkeeper Marinato Guilherme have been omitted from Russia’s Euro 2020 training squad, the Russian Football Federation (RFS) said on Tuesday.
Smolov, 31, made all five matches at the 2018 World Cup, while Guilherme, 35, of Brazilian origin, last played in his adopted country in November.
Former Celta Vigo striker Smolov has been named to the replacement squad of seven.
The list of 30 names will be reduced to 26 players before the competition, RFS said in a statement.
Stanislav Cherchesov’s side will meet for a training camp in Austria on May 20 ahead of friendlies against Poland on June 1 and Bulgaria four days later.
In the delayed Euro, they will face Belgium in St. Petersburg on June 16, Finland four days later in the same city before heading to Copenhagen face Denmark on June 21.
