“Three years too late! – Arsenal, Man Utd fans respond to links after Cristiano Ronaldo deal
Arsenal fans have reacted on social media to transfer speculation linking them to a move for Manchester United striker Anthony Martial.
The Frenchman, who won the 2015 Golden Boy Award as a teenager, hasn’t had an impact at United lately, and last season only scored four Premier League goals after scoring 17 in the previous season.
With the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo this summer putting him even lower in the pecking order, the Frenchman had the opportunity to impress in the Carabao Cup against West Ham during the week.
He failed to inspire United to victory, however, instead playing a small role as they were knocked out of the competition thanks to an early goal from Manuel Lanzini.
With 2022 bringing another World Cup, Martial can hope to move away from Old Trafford in January in order to allow him to regain form before the event in Qatar and, hopefully, put himself in the thought of Didier Deschamps. .
Journalist Ekrem Konur believes Martial will be the subject of an Arsenal offer in the next transfer window as Mikel Arteta hopes to improve his squad after a poor start to the Premier League season that leaves them 13th after five games.
Arsenal fans on social media have had a mixed reaction to the news that they may be interested in Martial.
On Twitter, @midastouch Said: “Martial is 25 years old and in his prime. He has strayed at United and sometimes players need a fresh start. A talented footballer and nothing like the arsenal.”
@mrprincecollins said: “If Arsenal sell Lacazette I would like them to go and get Martial. 45m is a good deal.
@KachiEkwerike added: “Do you remember how much Arsene Wenger wanted Martial before joining Man U? There is a player in there. I will take him to Arsenal.
Other Arsenal supporters on Twitter were less impressed, however, with Man United fans also stepping into the debate.
@OTbutintweets said: “Three years too late lol”, while @onlyonesketchy said: “Nah mate Spurs can have it”.
@ jerry reformed added, “It’s like martial arts are inevitable for a while.”
During this time, @ StreamingSteve7 said: “All I go [sic] let’s say these martial arts ties better not be true @Arsenal ..
The forward has played six times for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men so far this season, with four of those appearing on the bench.
Martial’s only goal this season came for France in a 1-1 draw against Ukraine in a World Cup qualifier earlier this month.
