Skiddle’s Open Goal: A weekly roundup of football news and events

It was an absolutely massive weekend of Premier League action that saw the title race reignited. Manchester City seemed to be sailing towards another title, but after a recent draw with Southampton things suddenly took a turn for the worse after losing to Tottenham Hotspur.

Tottenham have now done the double over City and that 3-2 victory was absolutely stunning entertainment. Spurs took the lead at the start of January by signing Kulisevski, City equalized through Gundogan in the first half. Then Harry Kane flew between the City centre-backs to volley home.

As the game headed into extra time, City equalized through a penalty which was canceled out by Mahrez. Still, the game was not dead with Kane scoring a 95th-minute header to give Spurs a deserved win. It was a big relief for Liverpool who had beaten Norwich 3-1 earlier in the day thanks to goals from Mane, Salah and their latest signing Luis Diaz.

If they win their game against Leeds, Liverpool will be just three points behind league leaders Manchester City. In other news, Burnley secured a vital and emphatic 3-0 victory over Brighton, Watford managed to pick up their first three points under Roy Hodgson and Southampton beat Everton.

If you are a huge football fan, you will probably enjoy these events…
