Presidential Sports Club pledges full support to Belarusian Special Olympics Committee
MINSK, September 24 (BelTA) – The Presidential Sports Club of Belarus is always ready to support the Belarusian Special Olympics Committee under the aegis of which many events are organized to develop an inclusive approach in sport and a healthy lifestyle in Belarus, head of the organization Dmitry Lukashenko said during his visit to a national football tournament in Ulla with the participation of women’s teams who train under the Special Olympics system, BelTA learned.
“This is not the first joint project of the Presidential Sports Club with the Belarusian Special Olympics Committee. Many important events are organized under the auspices of this organization. That is why our club is always happy to lend a helping hand. We are considering signing a bilateral cooperation protocol in the near future, ”he said.
The national football tournament with the participation of the women’s teams of the Special Olympics in Ulla, Beshenkovichi district, Vitebsk oblast, celebrated the birthday of the founder of the Special Olympics movement, Eunice Kennedy Shriver.
A center for vocational and social rehabilitation of children with special needs was opened at Lev Dovator High School in Ulla in 2010. For many years, students of the center have represented Belarus in international Special Olympics competitions. Seven teams participate in the competitions. The Presidential Sports Club provided the center with a variety of equipment and inventories to improve the high school’s sports facilities.
The Belarusian Special Olympics Committee is carrying out large-scale work on the social reintegration of people with special needs through sport. Each year, the association organizes regional and national competitions in football, basketball, table tennis, swimming, athletics and other Special Olympic sports. The association also organizes training and qualification competitions to prepare the national team of the Republic of Belarus for the European and International Special Olympics.
