With the regular season now over and the playoffs looming this weekend in the German Football League, AFI features the last leaders of the regular season in the offensive categories of passing distance, running and receiving as well as the top tackles in the GFL.
Of the 14 teams of GFL, 10 were represented on the lists of top passers, rushers, receivers and defenders. The Monarchs of Dresden, Crocodiles of Cologne, and Baltic hurricanes in Kiel, all of the GFL North, led with three representatives each while the Hurricanes of the Saar, Braunschweig New Yorker Lions, and Munich Cowboys had two each. The Potsdam Royals, Allgäu comets, and Mercenaries of Marburg all had a moment, surprisingly, the undefeated Schwäbisch Hall unicorns did not have a single representative among the 20 listed here. Also unrepresented although not as surprising given where they ended up in the standings were the Berlin rebels, Stuttgart Scorpions, and Frankfurt Universe.
Dresden Monarchs QB KJ Carta Samuels led all of the GFL passers with 3,340 yards and 46 touchdowns against just 5 picks. Not far behind in 2nd place was Christian Strong of the Cologne Crocodiles who had 3,185 passing yards and 32 touchdown passes. Saarland Hurricanes QB Josh Goldin threw for 2,898 yards, good for the 3rd, but he led all passers with a 70.5 completion percentage. In 4th was Joe Germinerio of the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes who had 2,265 passing yards and 21 touchdown passes. Ravensburg Razorbacks QB Ryan Deal was the 5th best passer with 2,088 yards and 16 touchdowns.
Jake Mayon of the Potsdam Royals was the GFL’s top rusher with 1,419 yards and 20 touchdowns. His 157.7 yards per game was also the league’s best mark. Behind him in 2nd was Allgäu Comets RB Glen Toonga who had 1,099 rushing yards. Third place belonged to Exavier Edwards of the Braunschweig New Yorker Lions who had 724 rushing yards and 9 rushing touchdowns. Ravensburg Razorbacks RB Lennies McFerren was 4th with 660 yards while Brandon Watkins of the Munich Cowboys was 5th with 643 yards.
Kiel Baltic Hurricanes WR Weston Carr led all receivers averaging 1,318 yards per game for the league lead. Behind him in 2nd was Markell Castle of the Cologne Crocodiles with 1,218 yards while his teammate Aaron Jackson was third with 1,215 yards. Dresden Monarchs Darrell Stewart Jr. was 4th with 974 yards while Monarchs wide receiver Robin Wilzeck slipped to 5th with 903 yards.
Kiel Baltic Hurricanes LB Darin Hungerford was the league’s top tackle in 2021, recording 121 tackles in 10 games. Behind him in 2nd was still reliable Munich Cowboys Ryan Newell who had 96 tackles while Jeremy Conley of the Ravensburg Razorbacks was the 3rd best tackle with his 89. Saarland Hurricanes LB Sesan Jelvani was 4th with 78 while Robert Heyward of the Marburg Mercenaries finished with 77 tackles, good for the 5th.
