John Hartson teased Aaron Ramsey verdict as Rangers hero calls transfer ‘review’
Former Rangers favorite Kenny Miller has applauded John Hartson after he struggled to give Aaron Ramsey a billing hit.
The playmaker sealed a sensational loan move to Ibrox from Juventus on deadline day in the most eye-catching move of the Premiership window.
But Hartson has struggled to prepare for his countrymen’s arrival in the city as he looks to help Rangers win the title.
When asked The Go Radio football show if he thought Ramsey would make a difference in the title race, sighing Hartson was quick to point out the long list of injury problems the midfielder has faced.
The Celtic legend said sullenly: “Well, we’re going to find out, aren’t we.
“What I would say is Aaron is a great player, and he’s a fantastic signing. Even if he moved to Juventus, he wouldn’t have played the number of games he would have liked, c he’s the type of player who, even if he didn’t play at Juventus, he would still come to Wales.
“Remember, he scored two goals for Wales against Belarus, but I don’t think he’s started a game for Juventus for almost four months.”
After a grim verdict on the move, he was pressed if he thought Ramsey could still ‘do it’ on the park.
He continued: “He’s one of those players who doesn’t need a lot of games because he usually keeps fit and in good shape.
“Obviously I still don’t know. Giovanni van Bronckhorst said he won’t play (against Celtic) but I wouldn’t be surprised if he surprised a few people and benched him.”
After a less than enthusiastic opening, fellow pundit Miller laughed: “I think if it had been a cross-town signing, John would have been a lot more optimistic about it.
“He’s a sensational signing. He’s up there with the biggest signings the Old Firm has made in a number of years.
“I think when you go back to Gascoigne, Laudrup and even my time, Niko Kranjcar was a big rookie at that time.
“For Celtic, Roy Keane, Robbie Keane – John Hartson when he was up the road.
“So that’s a massive, incredible signing, and I think it’s on the blue side of town that he didn’t give his countrymen as good a review as they could have been.”
