The Indian women’s soccer team concluded a rather successful exhibition trip after beating world number 40 Chinese Taipei 1-0. In previous matches, the Indians had won against the United Arab Emirates 4-1, lost to Tunisia 0-1 and shutout Bahrain 5-0 under new coach Thomas Dennerby of Sweden.
The Indian women’s soccer team arrived with a scintillating performance to beat world No.40 Chinese Taipei 1-0 at Hamad Town Stadium in Bahrain on Wednesday. Ranked 57th in the world, the Indian team opened the scoring in the third minute with Renu finding the net.
As part of the exhibition trip, the Indian team played four friendlies, to prepare for the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup, to be held in India in February. It all started with a 4-1 victory over the United Arab Emirates, followed by a surprise 0-1 loss to Tunisia. In the third game, India shut out Bahrain 5-0.
The team played all four games under the guidance of new coach Thomas Dennerby, who joined the team in August. Earlier in the year, India had waged regular campaigns against senior opponents and lost to countries like Serbia, Russia, Ukraine, Uzbekistan and Belarus.
The Indian team’s next assignment will now be in Stockholm, Sweden, where they will face top clubs like Hammarby Fotboll and Djurgårdens Fotboll.
