Helander Euros Back | Rangers Football Club
FIL HELANDER is back from his Euro adventure – and he’s very impressed with the state he’s found his Rangers teammates in.
The Swedish internationalist is now on par with the rest of the players who represented his country in the tournament which ended for them in Hampden on June 29.
Helander was speaking to RangersTV this week, with your club channel, official website, app, and social media channels the only place to hear the Light Blues this preseason.
He explained: “It was great to see all the boys and it looks like they trained hard! I just came back so I didn’t train a lot but it looks like the boys trained hard and get up to speed.
“Now that I’ve had my rest, which was a bit shorter than some of the players, I can’t wait to come back.”
The Swedes had to do well in the tournament after reaching the quarter-finals in the last World Cup, and they started exceptionally well, leading a group including Spain, Slovakia and Poland in a draw. against the Spaniards then good victories in their last two devices.
This saw them advance to the round of 16 with Ukraine in Glasgow, where a goal from Artem Dovbyk in added time at the end of extra time denied them a quarter-final rematch against England in Rome.
Despite the injury from this disappointing outing, Helander believes they are in good shape to continue and qualify for Qatar 2022, having achieved two out of two wins in their section so far.
“This is what we must try to do,” he added. “We have a good squad and I think we got some glimpses of that in this tournament.
“We have good players and I hope we can have a little more success.
“Of course it’s always special to play in a big tournament, and I enjoyed that as much as possible, but unfortunately the result was not what we wanted.”
