Debate on football. KV Kortrijk defender Radovanovic suspended for three matches – Waasland-Beveren wins RWDM championship
Radovanovic (KV Kortrijk) was severely penalized on appeal for a red card
The disciplinary board of the Royal Belgian Football Association (KBVB) appealed Friday against a three-day suspension of matches (two of which are valid) and a fine of 2,500 euros for KV Kortrijk defender Aleksandar Radovanovic.
After a riot with OHL player Ngawa in added time for OHL-Kortrijk (2-1), Radovanovic was briefly upset. The Kortrijk defender sold his opponent a powerful neck-deep push, after which referee Smet immediately fired a red card. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office requested Radovanovic’s suspension for two days, and this motion was first ratified on Tuesday.
However, KV Kortrijk again withdrew his defense and appealed. According to Guys, the penalty was disproportionate to the violation. According to the club, there were extenuating circumstances: Radovanovic responded to Nagawa’s provocations, the lot was soft and did not endanger the physical integrity of the OHL player, after which Radovanovic apologized.
KV Kortrijk believe that a one-day match suspension should suffice, but the Federal Prosecutor’s Office increased its request after the club’s appeal. Federal prosecutor Verhagen requested a three-day suspension, one of which was postponed due to Radovanovic’s criminal record. The Disciplinary Council completed the sentence of the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office. The Serbian defender will therefore miss the competitive matches against AA Gent and regional rival Zulte Waregem.
