Chelsea Women have signed French international defender Eve Perisset from Bordeaux on a three-year deal.

Perisset becomes the first player to sign for either the men’s or women’s team at Chelsea since the Todd Boehly-led consortium completed the club’s takeover from Roman Abramovich last month.

The Blues had been unable to sign new players – or renew the contracts of current players – since March due to British government sanctions imposed on Russian-Israeli billionaire Abramovich following the Russian invasion of Barcelona. ‘Ukraine.

Perisset, who will wear the No.15 shirt at Kingsmeadow, will officially become a Chelsea player on July 1.

She told the Chelsea website: “It’s a fantastic honor to join Chelsea and to be the first French player to turn blue! I’m very grateful for the opportunity given to me.

“It was time for me to make this big move to London and join the English Super League and I look forward to meeting the team and the fans later this summer at Kingsmeadow and the famous Stamford Bridge!”

Chelsea Women boss Emma Hayes added: “Eve brings a wealth of experience and is a versatile player who is capable of playing both at full-back and in midfield.

“A tenacious defender, with her mentality and professionalism, we have no doubt she will complement the squad well. We are really looking forward to welcoming Eve to the squad later this summer as we head into the new season. “
