• Flandreau 29, Baltique 8

The Flandreau Fliers claimed the first victory of their season by beating Baltic 29-8 on Friday night at Baltic High School.

The Bulldogs edged the Fliers 197-181, but Flandreau’s defense had five turnovers, five sacks and posted a safety.

“We played our most complete game of the year and our defense stepped up to give our offense short fields all night,” said Fliers head coach Derek Genzlinger. “We forced 5 turnovers in the game and got 5 sacks; they turned off the lights all night.

Ethan Hoffman had 72 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries, and Tathan Headrick had 76 yards on 14 carries.

Tanner Christenson threw for just 45 yards on 8-17 passes, but delivered two touchdowns and also threw an interception.

Tash Monday had four catches for 27 yards and a touchdown.

Monday also tallied three of Fliers’ five sacks and nine tackles, including one for loss for points safety.

Christenson added six tackles, forced a fumble and had an interception.

Chase Reed recorded seven tackles, while Chase LeBrun, Kolby Peters and Caley Pitsenberger all collected one fumble.

“We had contributors from all levels and a lot of inexperienced young guys who also played. Everyone was able to get some playing time which is extremely beneficial when we are not able to play a JV schedule to get reps from these guys, ”added Genzliner. “I am extremely proud of all the players, coaches and fans. It was a great night all around.

Rhett Osthus had a pair of touchdown passes, finishing with four catches for 95 yards.

Kalen Garry also had four receptions, gaining 97 yards and finding the end zone once.

Garry also had 48 rushing yards with one touchdown in six carries.

Wilkinson also found paydirt once on the ground, gaining 27 yards on six carries.

For the Elks, Ryan Krog had 64 yards on four rushing attempts.

Krog also completed 4 of 9 passes, but for just seven yards.

Martin Davis led all Elks defensemen with 11 tackles, while Krog added 6.5 and Aiden Erickson 4.5.

Elkton-Lake Benton (1-3) will host the Deubrook area on Friday at 7 p.m. in the Elks’ return game.
