Where is the 2022 Champions League final?
For the third time in the history of the tournament and the first since 2006, the final will take place at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis in the Paris suburbs.
The move was made on February 25, 2022 after European governing body UEFA deprived St Petersburg, Russia of the right to host the game following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The 2022 final was originally scheduled to be held at Krestovsky Stadium on Krestovsky Island in Saint Petersburg, Russia.
The Stade de France serves as the home stadium for France’s national football and rugby teams. Built and opened before the 1998 FIFA Men’s World Cup – it hosted France’s victory over Brazil in the 1998 final – the Stade de France has already hosted two Champions League finals (2000 and 2006 ).
In what will be seen as a good omen for the Spanish team, the previous two Stade de France finals have seen Spanish clubs lift the trophy. Real Madrid beat fellow Spaniard Valencia in 2000, and Barcelona came from behind to beat Arsenal 2-1 in 2006.
Which club has won the most UEFA Champions League titles?
Real Madrid are the undisputed kings of the UEFA Champions League having won the competition a record 13 times.
The Spanish club dominated the Champions League from the start, winning five consecutive titles, and recently won three consecutive titles between 2016 and 2018.
Italian giants AC Milan are the next most successful club with seven titles to their name, but have not enjoyed success in the competition since 2007.
