Credit Registration Office
BKR stands for the Bureau for Credit Registration, which is located in Tiel. Banks and other lenders are obliged to register every loan taken out with them with the BKR. When the loan is paid off, they cancel it again. This is also registered if someone is more than three months in arrears in paying back their loan. If you apply for a loan, most lenders will first check with the BKR whether you have any other loans and whether you have payment arrears somewhere. It may be that the lender decides not to grant you credit based on the BKR data.
